Skylight

What is a Skylight?

A skylight is a modern roofing system, made of solid or framed glass panels, that allows natural light to flow into a space while also providing an added layer of protection, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors from the comfort of your home or building.

Public Buildings

To showcase exhibits and artwork in public buildings, such as museums and art galleries, skylights offer a perfect solution, creating a bright and welcoming space that enhances the viewing experience for visitors.

Atrium
Atrium

Skylights are often used in atriums, creating a stunning indoor garden or courtyard space that is protected from harsh weather conditions but still receives natural light.

Religious Buildings

Skylights in religious buildings like temple, churches, and mosques can bring a divine touch by inviting natural sunlight to illuminate sacred spaces. The ethereal play of light can create a serene ambiance, and bring in a sense of peace.

What type of Glass is used in Toughened Skylight?

Toughened glass or toughened laminated glass is commonly used in skylights. However, we recommend using toughened laminated glass since it provides more safety and security. Toughened Laminated Glass consists of two layers of glass with a polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer, which helps hold the glass together even if it breaks, reducing the risk of shattering and providing additional protection.

Is there a risk of Glass Crack or breaking in Bimba Skylight?

Skylights do carry a risk of glass cracking or breaking, mainly due to external factors. To reduce the risk, it is highly recommended to opt for toughened laminated glass for skylight installations. Additionally, conducting regular inspections is important for identifying any signs of damage or stress on the glass and maintaining the longevity of the skylight.

What are the things I should consider before putting skylight?

Before installing a skylight, make sure to consider the following factors:

  • Purpose: Determine the purpose of the skylight, whether it is for aesthetics, natural light, or both.
  • Structural Integrity: Assess the structural integrity of your space to determine if it can support the weight and additional loads imposed by skylight.
  • Size: Determine the appropriate size of the skylight based on available space and desired aesthetic.
  • Safety Measures: Incorporate safety features such as toughened laminated glass to enhance the structural integrity and minimize the risk of glass breakage.

  • Professional Installation: Skylight installation should be done by experienced professionals, familiar with the specific requirements.
